One the seventh day of Christmas-ish movies we watched an old favorite that’s been on the show before: Psych: The Movie.

Are you a fan of Delicious Flavor? Well, you should be.

That would be my Psych rewatch podcast, which I co-hosted with Jenna Anderson and Shawn Carpenter. It’s a ton of fun, and I wish we could have finished the run.

During its run, Psych had a number of memorable Christmas episodes, including one of my personal favorites, “Holiday Joy,” in which Shawn (James Roday) revealed to his best friend Gus (Dule Hill) that he and Gus’s sister Joy (Faune Chambers Watkins) had a fling.

Psych: The Movie, which came out a few years after the end of the TV series on which it was based, premiered on Peacock, where Psych lives now, but is also available to rent or buy on other digital platforms like Fandango at Home and Prime Video.

The movie takes place at Christmas, and centers on themes of family in a big way — even while it tackles the legacy of the Yin/Yang killers, a duo of serial killers who were the most dangerous antagonists Shawn and Gus ever faced during the show.

Also featuring Zachary Levi as a charmingly campy villain called The Thin White Duke, Psych: The Movie was a huge love letter to fans of the franchise. Along the way, it features a great musical sequence set to “Allison Road” by the Gin Blossoms.

There have since been two more Psych movies, with both the producers and Peacock suggesting they still plan more. Still, with the holiday backdrop of Psych: The Movie as well as a Psych office modeled after a set from holiday masterpiece Gremlins, there’s not very many murder mysteries better equipped to get you into the holiday spirit.
