On the fifth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me a VHS copy of Gremlins.

Gremlins is probably the most Christmas-ish movie we’ve had so far. The story is not just “around” Christmas like Long Kiss Goodnight but thing that furthers the story. The “Gremlin” is the Christmas gift.

Randall Peltzer, an inventor, walked into a antique shop on a rainy night and was offered a small creature to give as a gift to his son. It came with several rules.

  1. Do not expose to bright lights
  2. Do not let them get wet
  3. No feeding after midnight

If you’ve seen the film, you know what happens from there. Christmas trees destroyed, old ladies in chair lifts terrorized and refrigerators ransacked.

The 1984’s Christopher Columbus film, produced by Steven Spielberg was a huge hit making $213 million on a $11 million budget. No doubt it made a bundle on home video, t-shirts and plushies. Hell, I remember having a Gremlins plushie.
