Murder Drones, a fan-favorite webseries from indie animation powerhouse Glitch Productions, is headed to comics. Earlier today, Oni Press announced that the show, created by animator Liam Vickers, will fund its first-ever graphic novel on Kickstarter. Oni, best known as the publishers of titles like Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Genderqueer, already have adult animation cred thanks to their Invader Zim and Rick & Morty comics.
According to IGN, Oni’s Murder Drones will launch on Kickstarter in September 2025 and debut in comic shops in February 2026.
“The team at Glitch Productions are fiercely independent and deeply creative, and what they’ve built is wildly inspiring to witness. It’s an honor for Oni to be welcomed into their fold to help expand Glitch’s footprint into the world of comic book storytelling for the first time,” said Oni Press President and Publisher Hunter Gorinson in a statement. “From Invader Zim to Rick and Morty to Cult of the Lamb, Oni Press has always been at the forefront of bringing cutting-edge properties at the forefront of pop culture to comics in daring new ways, and Murder Drones is the perfect next extension of that tradition. Whether you’re already a dedicated fan or set to experience these characters for the first time in comics form, we can’t wait to share what Wyatt Kennedy and Jo Mi-Gyeong – two wildly talented creators in their own right – are bringing to this darkly fascinating and instantly engrossing mythology.”
Murder Drones centers on the tense dynamic between two different types of autonomous robots: worker drones, which were designed to do mining and other tasks on the world of Copper 9; and disassembly drones, sent to kill the worker drones once they reach the end of their usefulness to their corporate overlords at the JC Jenson corporation.
The worker drones, including series hero Uzi Doorman, hide behind powerful, blast-resistant security doors designed and implemented by Uzi’s father to avoid extermination. Uzi, a rebellious teen, doesn’t want to hide anymore and instead chooses to fight back, with the unexpected help of N, a chipper and lovable disassembly drone.

Murder Drones, which won two Webby Awards and was nominated for a third, ran for eight episodes on YouTube. After the series concluded it was licensed to Amazon and streams as part of Prime Video’s subscription content. Murder Drones: XXXX is the first comics project based on one of Glitch’s series. Other shows in the company’s portfolio include the YouTube and Netflix mega-hit The Amazing Digital Circus and the recently-launched series The Gaslight District.
The official synopsis for Murder Drones: The Graphic Novel doesn’t give much clue as to where in the Murder Drones timeline the story will take place, with an official synopsis that reads, “From the twisted mind of creator Liam Vickers and Glitch Productions comes a heart warming story of ‘destroy all humans.’ In the far future, a natural disaster has flash-frozen humanity’s remote mining exoplanet, Copper 9. Only now the ‘worker drones’ – built by humanity and eventually outlived by them – have to rebuild society from the frozen ashes… An endeavor complicated by the appearance of ‘disassembly drones,’ vampiric robot counterparts hell-bent on wiping mechanical life from the planet and an unsettling virus known as the ‘Absolute Solver.‘”
In addition to Murder Drones and Rick & Morty, Oni Press is the home to IP-driven comics based “NacelleVerse,” a universe of characters from long-neglected toy lines that have recently been revived by Nacelle. They also recently revived the beloved EC Comics label for a number of stories by all-star creators.
